Get your blood flowing by jumping into the excitement of Northican life. Activities abound in all seasons and weather; don't miss another moment of thrills, adventure, and just plain fun.

Just do it.

Pilot a pleasure craft up a river or venture into deep ocean waters aboard a tuna charter for exhilirating game fishing. Parasail in Caldera Harbor, or kayak everywhere. Windsurf and water ski until your legs beg for bed.

Delight in cross-country skiing between Nahamou Pond and the Wajo River, or ride the Snow Train to reach downhill skiing on the steeply rolling Selkirk Hills. Skate on the Calder Canals, or cross the river to Corintha for a high-tech, double-size ice skating rink (and home to winter croquet).

Or combine activities: kayak to Knockennis Island and rockclimb to the top, then hike back to the shore. Join a pickup game at any ballfield; after you hit for the cycle, run to the beach to cool off. The less skilled but fearless bike from river to river bridge-diving until they complete the Diving Dozen.

If your heart prefers a slower rate, gentler diversions include Calder’s 18 holes of world-class golf among top executives and entertainers, or cross the Wersoski Bridge into Tinwald for Grande Galaxie: thirty-two bowling lanes, Cosmic Bowling Friday and Sunday nights, a two-story arcade room, authentic Cool Hand pool hall, and covered indoor-outdoor roller rink.

Like to watch?

Sometimes the only adrenalin rush you need comes when your team takes the lead. In the muddy seasons, to be Northican is to breathe extreme croquet in all its dynamic fascination. Flashing lights of the EMTs track the wild progress of the most competitive croquet matches in the world as squads battle for the annual Boldernesse Cup. On the harbor, the University of Northica's varsity crew rows for spring regatta and fall competitions, while for over thirty summers, whale watches have brought visitors close to Humpback, Finback, Humpback, Minke, and pilot whales, occasionally a North Atlantic Right Whale, harbor porpoise, and white-sided dolphins. Winter highlights snowmobile racing on frozen Lake Suggayoh and Nolka Trail.

Shuffle up and deal.

Intense tournaments test your skills agains the Calder cardsmiths. For a $20 entry fee, tournaments like Texas Hold-em on Tuesdays at The Narrows Pub and Blackjack every Thursday at Tolkin’s Tavern offer $500 guaranteed minimum first-place prizes and liberal rules. Each fall the Poker Train runs between St Andrews Station and Lake Suggayoh, where you can outdraw Picasso or drown at the river in charming mid-century style; the player with the most chips by midnight wins first prize and a shopping spree at the East Calder Shops.

For the adventurous looking for new thrills, games like Tadi, the native Northican game similar to poker, and Nederakke, where you roll the dice to riches, are waged in smaller unscheduled venues. Ask any bartender or cabbie for what’s on tonight.
