We love candles in Northica. We also love our homes, and candles are the largest culprit in home fires in the Calder area, so care is needed. Here are the Safety Council of Northica recommendations:

Dos

• Supervise burning candles at all times
• Keep burning candles at least one foot away from flammable objects
• Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets
• Trim candle wicks to ¼-inch in length
• Mount candles in noncombustible holders such as glass, ceramic, or metal
• Extinguish candles before leaving your home or going to bed
• Use a flashlight rather than candles during power outages
• Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children

Don’ts

• Don’t leave burning candles unattended by an adult
• Don’t let candles burn down to their container’s bottom
• Don’t walk with a burning candle
• Don’t use a candle for light when fueling equipment (fuel vapors ignite)
• Don’t place candles on unstable surfaces
