A delightful pie crust for any occasion.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup shortening
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup ice-cold water
- 1 egg
STEPS
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl, then cut in shortening to the consistency of coarse crumbs.
- Stir in water and egg until mixture forms a ball, then divide dough in half and shape each half into balls.
- Minimally roll out dough balls on a floured counter and press one in a pie tin.
- Add filling and cover with the second rolled-out dough ball.
SERVES
6 to 8
HEART-HAPPY
- Eliminate egg, wrap balls in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours (or put in freezer for 15 minutes) before rolling.
- Replace butter with light-spread margarine
